The objective of this event is to allow children to have a taster of what it’s like to sit an exam in a large hall, so they can get to know what to expect when the real 11+ exam occurs a week or so later. The familiarisation day was run by the local authority up until 2014, but has been cut from 2015 onwards. We can’t replicate the event on the same scale, but we do offer this event to give children a flavour of an examination in a large hall setting. We usually welcome about 70 children to the event every year. It will allow children to overcome any nerves that can (understandably) build up as they face this important exam at an early age. We now call this event our Super Mock Morning.
The local authority Familiarisation Day papers traditionally were not marked; however, we are now marking all of the papers. This means that parents will receive a detailed report which will enable targeted revision for the last week before the actual tests. The fee for the Super Mock morning, which includes marking and written feedback (as per our mock sessions) is £65 per candidate.
The papers we use on the day are written and put together by us specifically for the Super Mock Test. None of the students will have seen these questions before. Children need only bring two pencils (HB or softer), an eraser, a snack and a labelled water bottle (optional). Booking is essential.
